GlobalFoundries, Taiwanese chipmaker UMC consider merger, sources say....

(Reuters, March 31) Taiwan's major chipmaker United Microelectronics (2303.TW), opens new tab and U.S.-based GlobalFoundries (GFS.O), opens new tab are looking into the possibility of a merger, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday.A combined company would establish a larger U.S.-based firm with a global manufacturing footprint spanning Asia, the United States and Europe (See link for details).
